In observing how Gingrich, Boehner and Steele performed in the New York 23rd District race, we can see that they expected to be able to “handle” voters in the same old way and with the same old shopworn techniques they have used up until the emergence of the Tea Party people. It is well worth noting that, within hours after Scozzafava dropped out of the race, she endorsed the Democrat! What an embarrassment for entrenched Republican leaders – so much of the Republican Party machinery was exposed to view!
The Congressional race in New York’s 23rd District and the Gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia have brought large numbers of voters out who oppose the Marxist policies of the Obama Administration and Congress and this is their first real chance to exercise their power at the polls. The election in New Jersey might be a tossup, because the government in New Jersey has a worse reputation for corruption than the Karzai government in Afghanistan! It appears it may be impossible to get an honest vote count.
We don’t want to confuse anyone here. In pointing out the misjudgment of Republican leaders whom we chastise, we would not consider supporting the Democrats. Moderate and conservative Democrats have allowed radical Marxists, under the Democratic Party’s current leadership, Obama, Pelosi, Reid and others, to take over their Party threatening our Constitution, our democracy, our culture, our economic well being and our way of life. There is no way anyone with common sense could support the Democrats.
Boehner’s comments indicate, beyond much doubt, that the Republican Party is heavily influenced by county and state chairmen who mostly do the bidding of campaign donors and special interests as opposed to representing the people in their districts. This approach has been successful in the past when the general public has not shown much interest in politics and has been easily distracted. Now, however, the whole ballgame has changed. The Marxists are in power “big time” and they are out in the open. It’s scaring a lot of people and upsetting a lot of others. The Republican Party has gotten away with operating in this manner because the money to support them has come from those special interests and those special interests are well represented. There is little doubt that the national Tea Party movement is now redefining Republicanism. This situation is reflected in the county where we live and we have been writing about it, to the chagrin of local Republican Party “insiders,” for more than two years. Our commentaries dealing with the subject of local Party corruption, laziness, demonizing and cronyism have not made us popular with some Republicans, especially those steeped in supporting these ways of doing business. The Tea Party organizations provide a welcome breath of fresh air.
It is interesting to note that, even after Sarah Palin was bad mouthed by the media, litigated by enemies and researched into oblivion (they thought), her support of Doug Hoffman, the conservative in the New York Congressional race, contributed in a major way to his surge into the lead while his “moderate” Republican rival tanked. Republican leaders should take note of this. Perhaps another political strategy may be in order for the next election. By that we do not mean that every candidate should think he can simply don the “cloak of conservatism.” The Tea Party people and others are informing the voters and they will not be fooled.
There is a HUGE problem, considering all of this. There obviously isn’t time to gut the Republican Party from the county chairmen on up, so the most practical option right now is to gain as much control of the nominating process as is practical in order to “re-tread” the Republican Party. That means conservatives need to get HEAVILY involved in primary election campaigns, so that the person representing the Republican Party on the ballot in November is a real conservative. The leadership of our Tea Party group understands this, but I see no recognition of the practical facts as yet among other groups. I’m hoping it will start NOW – because time is of the essence.
