Did Republican Leadership "Snooker" the Tea Party? As we all know, the Democrats did lose the election in November and one of the reasons was that Republicans promised voters they would de-fund Obamacare if and when they took power. Since the House controls the purse strings of government we all thought they would vote to defund the Bill and stop it from being implemented. Nobody knew that the Democrats had inserted 105 billion $ in the Bill last year in order to make sure the money was available to fund the Bill. Now we know! Here's the bottom line. Republicans apparently had a chance to revoke the 105 billion to be used to fund the Bill and an amendment was offered to do just that prior to passage of the final Bill to remove funding. The Bill that passed only removed funding for NEXT YEAR and beyond. The amendment to remove the funding for THIS YEAR was not allowed by the House Leadership, according to reports, that it violated House rules. According to a past elected Representative that spoke during this evening's Town Hall, rules have made NO DIFFERENCE in past legislation when the Leadership decided to void them. Let;s be clear about this: The Leadership apparently has the power, and it is within past precedent, to disregard the rules in a case such as this. Why was that not done in this very important instance? Was a "deal" made to allow Obamacare to be funded this year and to allow the money inserted into the Bill last year to be used? This seems absolutely rank because the money to fund the Bill is now available when adoption of an amendment could have REMOVED IT and the Bill would not have been able to be funded at all!!! If this money is now allowed to be used to fund OBAMACARE when, according to reliable testimony, funding could have been stopped, then something is clearly rotten in Denmark. That's why we ask the question, have independent conservatives and Tea Party folks been snookered? Are they victims of insider political deal making? Is it any wonder that Tea Party folks and independent conservatives are so cynical about Washington politicians? Michelle Bachman and several others as well as WE are looking forward to removing the 105 billion $ from the Obamacare Bill so that it cannot be funded for this or any other year. |
